Achieving a David Tutera CELEBration
For years, I’ve planned events that are outrageous and over the top with a long roster of celebrity clientele. But, when I encounter many of my fans, the number one question is, “How do I plan a celebrity style event on my budget?!” Every client has a budget, even my celebrity clients, and believe it or not, even if your budget is not as large as a celebrity’s, there are a few key things that you can do that make it easy to achieve that “wow” factor without breaking the bank.
- I’m going to let you in on a very special four-letter word. Are you ready...RENT! Yes that’s right. Rent your linens, your chargers, your jewels, tuxedos, your décor and more! Most brides don’t think about renting items that are readily available in stores, but think again, because it will save you a ton of money. If you can buy it, you can probably rent it. You’ll also be thanking me when all you have to do is return the items instead of filling that empty room in your house with hundreds of chachkes that you’ll never use again.
- I’m also a fan of holding an event at an uncommon place, something I often do with my celebrity clients. Your location will add more charisma to your event than you think. Pick a location that relates with your theme or season--a barn, the woods, a museum, on a beach, an art gallery, aquarium, canyon, castle, library, the list can go on! Sure, in some cases it can incur different fees than that of a catering hall, but you don’t have to worry about your décor because ninety percent of it is already present at your location, serving as the beautiful backdrop to your celebration.
- Lastly, always think outside of the box, (and looking at Pinterest does not count!) So my advice to you is: travel to a place you’ve always dreamed of, watch black and white movies, dine at a restaurant built in the 1920’s or a hotel with unique architectural or interior designs, take inspiration from life experiences, and with that, there is no doubt that you can’t come up with something unique to you. This makes your inspiration more meaningful than pulling it off of a computer screen—it’s a personal experience that serves as your inspiration, a memory, a feeling, a view that only you will have experienced. There is more meaning and brilliance behind that than anything the Internet will ever give you! If there is something completely insane but you absolutely love it, think of ways to incorporate it into your event, even if it’s on a smaller scale. I portray this on my television show and when planning many of my celebrity client events. I listen to their vision, to what they want. I get to know them, their taste, their style and personality and that is what I use to paint the inspirational picture of what, where, when and how I choose to execute their event to their liking….and yes they end up not just liking it, but LOVING it, because it is true to who they are!
And speaking of creating unique events on my show, I’m sharing a whole new batch of my recently planned star-studded events on the newest season of David Tutera’s CELEBrations premiering October 30th and airing Friday’s at 10pm/9pm Central on WeTV. I didn’t think it could get any crazier than the last few seasons, but I was so wrong! There’s no question that this season had me on my toes for sure! From planning the bridal shower of the talented and beautiful Vanessa Williams—let’s just say everything seemed to be going according to plan until I met her friend Keva; to a Big Italian Wedding Mob Wives style, for the son of Angela "Big Ang” Raiola to Real Housewife of Atlanta, Cynthia Bailey to reality star couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt and many more!
As I balance my family, my team, and my client’s demands, I also had to find time to plan an event that required much of my own focus, and personal touch…. the wedding of my dear friend, driver and assistant, Montré Burton. So mark your calendars and get ready, because it’s a drama filled season that you won’t want to miss and I can’t wait to share it with you!
